CEU TOPIC:

Zoning & Site Planning City of Dennver/Wildland Urban Interface

This session provides an overview of the Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code (CWRC), including its development, purpose, and role in reducing wildfire risk throughout Colorado. Participants will explore the legislative and technical framework that led to the creation of the CWRC and gain an understanding of how the code is adopted and implemented at the local level.  Topics include the creation of the statewide Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) map, the parcel-level ground truthing process used to verify and refine hazard classifications, and the options available to jurisdictions for adopting and amending the code to meet local needs.

CEU TOPIC:

A Planning Guide for Accessible Restrooms

Learning Objectives:

1. Identify how accessibility standards accommodate a diverse set of users and the   

general prescriptive requirements for accessible restroom design mandated by ADA.

2. Understand the changes in the ICC A117.1-2017 Accessibility standards for existing and new buildings.

3. Describe requirements for accessible lavatories and restroom accessories.

4. Describe requirements for accessible toilet compartments of varying sizes and the

accessories needed to complete their specification.

5. Discuss requirements for accessible bathing facilities.

This course breaks down the core provisions of Chapter 9, including fire alarm and detection systems, automatic sprinkler systems, standpipes, smoke control, emergency responder communication systems, and other critical safeguards. Participants will learn how these systems interact with occupancy classification, building height and area, and special use provisions throughout the code.

Local Green Codes

This session explores the latest embodied carbon codes and policies in Colorado, highlighting their role in addressing one of the building industry's largest sources of carbon emissions. Attendees will gain an understanding of the current policy landscape, how these requirements are being implemented in practice, and what lies ahead for embodied carbon regulation and code development.

1. Describe the impact of embodied carbon on the building industry.

2. Identify the embodied carbon policies, programs, and regulations shaping building design and construction in Colorado.

3. Examine how embodied carbon policies are being implemented in practice.

4. Evaluate emerging embodied carbon codes, standards, and regulations and their implications for architectural practice.
