Topics and presenters are:

Session One: Resilient Roofing – Meeting the ASCE 7-16 Standard presented by Tanner Broerman, Clark Rheem & Associates, Firestone Building Products.

Credits: AIA and HSW (1 learning unit)

Description: Provides an overview of ASCE 7 roofing design standards and geographic adoption. Examines the evolution of ASCE 7 standards and how they have impacted wind speed design and installation practices in commercial roofing, and how to design a commercial roofing assembly to meet the most recent ASCE 7-16 standard. Provides clarification for the differences between simply designing for wind speeds and uplift pressures, in comparison to requesting a roofing manufacturer’s increased wind speed warranty.

Session Two: Protecting the 1st Side of the Building by Tom Marks CSI, CDT, LEED Green Associate, Rocky Mountain Regional Manager, Stego Industries, LLC.

Credits: AIA and HSW (1 learning unit)

Description: Provides an in-depth look at below-slab moisture, soil gases, brownfields and contaminated sites, and other concerns how to effectively mitigate with barrier solutions on various project sites and differing foundation designs. The program will examine building material failures, property loss, negative health effects, and the liability associated with the moisture vapor and soil gases, along with the environmental factors that are impacted by each of the issues compared to that of the sustainable solutions selected to mitigate them. The program is designed to update attendees on the current standards and recommendations from ASTM, ACI, EPA, and other organizations associated with each concern, as well as experts’ perspectives from each respective field.
